Dear members and supporters of the Cambridge Right to Life,
Although I have only been working here at the office for less than 3 months, you are already all becoming “dear” to me. I have been so impressed by the support that you have contributed to myself and the board members, particularly in this very busy month of May, our annual Respect for Life month.
I have already written about earlier events, such as the March for Life and school visit to the Marian Residence retirement home. But due to the incredible turn-out to our Coffee & Dessert Evening, I felt the need to update you all once more!
On Thursday, May 19th, we filled the main dining room at the Pines. We had over 100 people attend to hear our guest speaker, Charles Lewis. Not only was the talk inspiring, but the question period to follow revealed just how deeply you all care about the issue of legalized assisted suicide and euthanasia. With your help, I will continue to fight these issues along with the other life issues we already tackle on a regular basis in our community.
Another thank you to everyone who attended the Townhall Meeting on Bill C-14 with MP Bryan May for Cambridge and MP Marwan Tabbara for Kitchener South and Hespeler. Our MPP Kathryn McGarry was also present. The meeting was packed – standing room only – and I’m proud to say that our supporters made up a very large portion of attendees. Although our representatives made it clear that they will be supporting this bill, it is important that they continue to hear our voices and know that they have constituents who do NOT support legalized euthanasia and assisted suicide. When the law becomes more and more permissive over time, as it has in other jurisdictions with legalized doctor assisted killing, they will not be able to say that they “didn’t know” or that we did not speak up.
We also held a second mini-life chain along Hespeler Road this past Friday, May 27th. A special shout-out to the family who brought their children; with their attendance, we represented a full span of ages, from the young to the old. It isn’t too late to join us for a summer life chain – we will be holding one last mini-life chain on the last Friday in June, the 24th from 7-8 p.m. It will also be on Hespeler Road, across from the Applebee’s. I would love to see you there and meet you if I haven’t already!
Thank you for being a strong voice for the pro-life cause in your lives. Please feel free to reach out to me at the office as a resource and to continue staying involved with our organization as we educate the Cambridge community about the importance of respecting human life at all stages.
Yours for Life,
Viviana Runstedler
