Each year, Cambridge Right to Life takes the time to visit one of our government representatives on or around the anniversary of the day the Supreme Court of Canada struck down Canada’s abortion law, in order to shed light on the fact that another 100,000 pre-born Canadian children were not granted any legal protection or rights while in the wombs of their mothers. As a result, approximately 35,000 of those who would have been Ontario residents, were killed by abortion.

This year, we will be visiting our new MPP Belinda Karahalios to address the ‘Safe Access to Abortion Services Act’ that was passed under the Liberal leadership of Kathleen Wynne.

The purported justification for the bubble zone legislation law was to prevent women and staff from being harassed, intimidated, or threatened,  but there have been no substantiated instances of violence, intimidation or harassment by pro-lifers at abortion facilities; if there had been, Canada would and should have utilized our Criminal Code to deal with such cases.

In fact, the Ministry of the Attorney General completely ignored the evidence, from the abortion industry itself, proving harassment and violence are not an issue at abortion facilities. According to results of a 2012 national survey on Abortion Health Services in Canada, Canadian facilities reported “minimal or no harassment.” http://www.cfp.ca/content/62/4/e209

Bubble Zone Legislation is Based on Fiction and Ideology

Bubble zone legislation is a direct attack on freedom of speech, expression and assembly. Not only is this draconian legislation unconstitutional, but it serves only to silence peaceful pro-life witnessing and prevent women from having access to alternatives.

It would seem it is now a crime to be pro-life in Ontario. Case in point, is the arrest of Father Tony Van Hee who was simply holding a placard in opposition to the bubble zone law, without any reference to abortion.

It is hard to believe that it is an offence to protest restrictions on free speech only if one is pro-life!

That is why we will be calling on the Attorney General, Caroline Mulroney to drop all charges against Father Tony Van Hee and repeal this unconstitutional legislation.

Please join us at MPP Belinda Karahalios’ office (498 Eagle St) from 1:00-2:00 pm to stand for free speech and the right to offer help to women seeking abortion.
