In June 2012 the CBC revealed that  ultrasounds were being used in Canada to identify the sex of a child before birth. Armed with the knowledge of the sex of their child, some parents have proceeded to have an abortion simply because the child is a girl.  For more information exploring this growing problem in Canada and around the world go here.

An Environics poll commissioned by LifeCanada in 2012 found that 92% of Canadians believe gender selection abortion should be illegal. Conservative MP Mark Warawa has introduced a motion in the House of Commons asking parliament to condemn the practice.
