Seeking justice for babies left to die

On Friday, January 25, 2013, Cambridge Right to Life will mark the 25th anniversary of the day the Supreme Court of Canada struck down Canada’s abortion law by visiting MP Gary Goodyear's office (1425 Bishop St., N from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.). We were told that the minister will likely not be available to meet with us but we will present the following letter. We look forward to Minister Goodyear's response.  Letter to Hon. Gary Goodyear, MP January 25, 2013  Dear Minister Goodyear: Statistics Canada recently released startling figures which indicated that between 2000 and 2009, 491 Canadian babies, of 20 weeks gestation and greater, were left to die after failed abortions1 (does not include stillbirths). There are several things [...]

Law With No Teeth

No matter where you stand on abortion, we all should be horrified that 491 babies were born alive and left to die between 2000 and 2009 in Canada, as confirmed by Statistics Canada. According to how our country defines when a person becomes a human being, these children should have been protected.  The Canadian Criminal Code states: 223. (1) A child becomes a human being within the meaning of this Act when it has completely proceeded, in a living state, from the body of its mother, whether or not (a) it has breathed; (b) it has an independent circulation; or (c) the navel string is severed. Killing child (2) A person commits homicide when he causes injury [...]

National Newspaper features info-graphic on abortion

The National Post featured a very informative and sobering info-graphic breaking down the number of abortions performed in Canada in 2009 by province and age of mother and child. Click here to download graphic. Please note that the actual figure is much higher since the data does not include abortions performed in Quebec, clinic data for British Columbia is incomplete due to voluntary reporting, and abortions performed on women who reside outside Ontario but who have received an abortion in an Ontario clinic are not included. On a similar note, it was recently reported that 491 babies were born alive and left to die following failed abortions in Canada from 2000 to 2009. See Law with [...]

When are we human? MP Woodworth wants Canadians to review law with 400-year-old roots

The following article was printed in today's Record. KITCHENER — Kitchener Centre MP Stephen Woodworth says Parliament should examine the question of when a child is considered human under law. In a news release Wednesday, Woodworth said Canadian law does not consider a child human until it is completely delivered out of a woman’s birth canal. “This means that in Canada a child is legally considered to be sub-human while his or her little toe remains in the birth canal, even if he or she is breathing.” Woodworth said the law, Section 223 of Canada’s Criminal Code, has roots going back 400 years and should be revisited in light of 21st-century medical science and principles of human rights. “Perhaps [...]
